About

Tamar Haytayan is a Lebanese-born Armenian photographer and writer whose work is rooted in a personal and intuitive approach, capturing candid moments that reflect the culture of everyday life. A recurring thread throughout her practice is the exploration of memory, mortality, and grief. Her photography spans over 28 years and often weaves together themes of identity, loss, and belonging.

Tamar studied photography at the Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design in the UK. Her recent projects delve into the impact of intergenerational trauma and the lingering presence of memory and fate in the aftermath of genocide, as well as contemplations of selfhood in middle age.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Armenian Centre for Contemporary Art (Yerevan, Armenia), PhotoHaus Gallery (Vancouver, Canada), Philadelphia Photo Arts Center (Philadelphia, USA), The Women’s Art Show (Vancouver, Canada), The Center for Fine Art Photography (Fort Collins, Colorado), Los Angeles Center of Photography (Los Angeles, USA), and Blue Sky Gallery (Portland, Oregon).

Tamar has also collaborated with poet and performance artist Dr. Celeste Snowber of Simon Fraser University. In November 2022, she completed The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University. She currently lives and works in Vancouver, Canada.
